KAYAK functions as an online travel agent; the platform gives users access to information regarding travel transportation and accommodations. KAYAK provides searches for flights, trains, car rentals, hotels, cruises, vacation packages, and the newly added "things to do." These services are available through their website and mobile app. KAYAK also provides information regarding travel restrictions, special deals, and flight tracking. In addition to personal travel management, they provide business travel services intended to make booking and reporting more efficient for corporations. The platform allows users to set price alerts and to freeze prices, though a fee is applied to the price freeze service.
KAYAK was founded in 2004 by Steve Hafner and Paul English. KAYAK is part of Booking Holdings Inc along with their sister brand OpenTable. Booking Holdings acquired KAYAK in May of 2013. KAYAK has acquired a number of companies prior to, and since its own acquistition. KAYAK acquisitions include Swoodoo, checkfelix, momondo, Cheapflights, Mundi, and HotelsCombined.
