Krafton is a Seoul-based game development company that specializes in creating games with virtual worlds for mobile and PC. Since its inception in 2007, the company has acquired several gaming studios and describes itself as a collective of studios, each with a unique creative identity and focusing on different styles and genres of games. In 2023, Krafton generated $343.5 million in revenue in the third quarter alone and announced plans to launch more than thirty games by 2026 to continue growing the company.
Each of Krafton's studios creates different styles of games for mobile devices, personal computers, and consoles. Games are developed in styles such as player versus player (PvP), action role-playing games (RPGs), battle royale, and casual sports. Some of Krafton's most popular games include the following:
- TERA—a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in a fantasy world
- PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG)—a battle royale game centered around using survival tactics
- Subnautica—an action/adventure game developed by one of Krafton's acquisitions, Unknown Worlds, set in an alien underwater world
Krafton's Studios
Krafton has invested in more than twenty start-ups that are predominantly in the gaming industry but has also invested in companies in the medical technology and social media industries.
Krafton India, an offshoot of the company with its own CEO, was created specifically to grow Krafton's customer base in India. Krafton India designs games based on gaming trends in India, which include the popularity of esports.
In October 2023, Krafton India announced the launch of its incubator, Krafton India Gaming Incubator (KIGI). It is intended to support local talent in India with gaming start-ups that are at conception or the early stage of development. KIGI offers assistance with finances and mentorship for the development of video games for select start-ups for a duration of six months to a year.
