Kurt Alder was a German chemist born on July 10, 1902, in Chorzów, Poland. He received his education at the University of Kiel and Humboldt University of Berlin. Alder specialized in organic chemistry and is widely known for his discovery of the Diels-Alder reaction, for which he received the 1950 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, along with his doctoral advisor, Otto Diels.
Alder passed away on June 20, 1958, in Cologne, Germany.
