Leopold I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau, was born on July 3, 1676, in Dessau, Germany. He was the son of John George II, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau, and Countess Henriette Catherine of Nassau. Throughout his life, he was known as a German prince of the House of Ascania, and was the ruler of the principality of Anhalt-Dessau from 1693 to 1747. As a politician and a prince, Leopold I had a significant impact on the regional politics of his time.
