Lithography is a type of printed graphics, based, unlike engraving, on the technique of flat printing, in which printing ink is transferred under pressure from a flat printing plate to paper. Lithography is based on a physical and chemical process, which involves obtaining an impression from the surface of a special lithographic stone, which, due to appropriate processing, acquires the property of accepting special paint in some areas and repelling others. A lithographic stone is prepared by grinding with water and sand, achieving either a completely smooth surface or a textured one with a “root”. They draw on the stone with a special lithographic pencil and ink, using a variety of techniques: filling, hatching, scratching (scratching).
