Soviet flying ace
Lydia Litvyak, born in Moscow on August 18, 1921, was a fighter pilot, flying ace, and officer in the armed forces. She was a citizen of the Soviet Union and was best known for her role as a World War II fighter pilot and the world's top female ace. Litvyak died in Donbass on August 1, 1943.
Throughout her career, Litvyak received numerous awards, including the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class, Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class, Order of Lenin, Order of the Red Star, Order of the Red Banner, and Hero of the Soviet Union.
