Founded in 2018 by Krijn de Nood, Daan Luining, and Mark Kotter, Meatable is a cellular agriculture company that develops clean meat products. It is headquartered in Delft, South Holland. Meatable uses a proprietary technology developed in partnership with Roger Pederson, a stem cell biologist and founder of the University of Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, and Mark Kotter, Cambridge neurosurgery clinician and Meatable cofounder. The company's proprietary technology allows it to use induced pluripotent stem cells to produce clean meat products.
In July 2022, Meatable announced the completion of its first product, cultivated pork sausages. The company hopes to sell the product by 2025; its ability to sell is affected by European laws prohibiting the sale of cultivated meat to consumers. To cultivate meat, Meatable takes a single cell sample from an animal––a harmless procedure––and replicates the natural growth process of muscle and fat. The pork sausages take only a few weeks to grow.
