The history of the Company began in 1999 when the owners of Interfin, Alisher Usmanov, Andrei Skotch and Lev Kvetnyy purchased about 40% of shares of Oskolsky Electro-Metallurgical Combine (OEMK) and Lebedinsky GOK (LGOK). Gasmetall Holding was created, which planned to develop both companies, but metallurgy took the upper hand. In 2002-2004 Ural Steel and Mikhailovsky GOK were acquired
In 2006 ZAO Gazmetall and ZAO Metalloinvest merged, and ZAO Gazmetall was renamed ZAO Metalloinvest Holding.
The owners of the company
USM Holdings Ltd, which consolidated the assets of Alisher Usmanov (the holding is named after the first letters of the last names of the shareholders) and his associates: Alisher Usmanov (60%), Vladimir Skoch (30%) and Farhad Moshiri (10%).

First - until 2026 - optimization of commodity balance. The goal is to increase margins and ensure sustainable sales in high-margin markets by achieving compliance of production capabilities with the maximum market requirements.
The second stage runs until 2032. The goal is to strengthen the leading position in the production of high-quality iron ore, metallized and steel products using "green" technologies.
The strategy assumes growth of investments in the development of production of high-quality products
Improving the quality of iron ore;
Increasing the production and improving the quality of pellets;
Increasing the production and improving the quality of HBI/DRI;
Reduction of production costs and increasing the stability of the mining industry;
development of niche steel sales and flexibility of metallurgical production.
