Metamaterial Technologies is a company that develops materials, meta-materials and photonics technologies. The company was founded by George Palikaras and Themos Kallos in 2011 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Metamaterial Technologies' activity is centered around creating solutions for healthcare, defense, energy, and aerospace purposes. To meet their objectives in creating changes in the way light is used, the company focuses their in-house designs in nano-fabrication, theoretical and computational electromagnetics along with metamaterials.
Some of their products, all of which are patented, include their NanoWeb, metaAIR, metaOPTIX, and Glucowise. These platforms and products were created by utilizing holography, lithography, wireless sensing, and their own custom technologies.
- NanoWeb—NanoWeb is a transparent conductor composed of a metal mesh that can be fabricated onto a glass or plastic surface. The mesh can be made from silver, aluminum, platinum, copper, nickel, and other highly conductive metals, allowing energy to pass through an open area surface. The mesh is invisible to the human eye.
- metaAIR—metaAIR is a piece of eyewear purposely designed to protect pilots and those in aviation from laser glares.
- metaOPTIX—Metamaterial Technologies' metaOPTIX are holographic thin film notch filters.
- Glucowise—Glucowise is a non-invasive glucose monitor that is under development.
