Facts about Milo
1. His first acting job for TV was on his mom's show, Ghost Whisperer.
Milo's mom is actress Camryn Manheim, who's been in a myriad of TV shows* and movies, including Ghost Whisperer.
Being a single mom, Camryn would take Milo to set with her, so he grew up behind the camera, "watching it all go down and seeing how it all works."
One day in 2009, he mentioned to his mom how it would be cool to be in front of the camera on an episode. She said they could probably make that happen, and not long after, Milo was gracing our TV screens with his adorable face and long locks.
"They gave me the two hours in advance or something. So, I was just 8 years old or whatever, reading it, going through it, trying to memorize it," Milo said. "I'd never really done anything like that before. I went in and they offered me the role and I did it."
His next credit on IMDb would happen nine years later, with Zombies.
*Fun fact: Camryn played Margo on two episodes of Hannah Montana in 2007. Margo was Mikayla's (Selena Gomez) manager and she would get into hilarious insulting matches with Robby Ray (Billy Ray Cyrus).
2. He was discovered for Zombies while doing live theater.
Milo may have (temporarily) stopped acting for TV and film after doing Ghost Whisperer, but he didn't stop acting altogether. He did musical theater, and it was actually how he ended up getting the lead role in Zombies.
While performing in Rent, a casting agent who saw the show asked Milo if he'd consider auditioning for a Disney Channel movie, which turned out to be Zombies.
"I was a little bit skeptical, but I did it, and it ended up working out pretty well, if I do say so myself." Indeed it did.
3. He's an avid theater fan.
Besides doing theater, Milo also loves attending Broadway shows, many times with his mom, who starred on Broadway in the Spring Awakening revival from 2015-2016, as well as in Off-Broadway productions.
Coincidentally, Spring Awakening is Milo's "favorite show of all time," and he's acted in productions of it twice.
"I love everything about [Spring Awakening] and seeing my mom in it was incredible. If she can do Broadway, I feel like I can," he said, laughing. "That's what she told me."
Some of Milo's other favorite shows include: Rent, Dear Evan Hansen, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and A Chorus Line.
"The reason I love theater so much is just the people," he shared. "It’s less about the show and more about who you do it with.
4. He can play five instruments.
Milo plays the guitar, the piano, the drums, the ukulele, and he "dabble[s]" in the horns.
He grew up practicing piano, but as he got older he fell in love with playing the guitar. "There [are] pianos everywhere you go, but you can bring your guitar anywhere you go, which I love. It's so therapeutic for me to just sit down and play a little tune," he said.
Besides playing music, Milo is also writing it as well, though he admits he's "not very good at it, but [he's] trying to get into it."
The first song he learned to play on the guitar was "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" by Green Day. "That is the one that I still play all the time. It’s special to me."
His mom posted the throwback video (above) of young Milo playing the famous Green Day jam.
5. He met Ariel Martin, aka Baby Ariel, a year before Zombies 2 was even a possibility.
In the DCOM sequel, Milo and Ariel's characters are at odds with each other, since Zed isn't a fan of the werewolves joining Seabrook's society. However, Milo and Ariel quickly hit it off when they met IRL.
Milo shared how they were on a plane together and he posted about it, and fans approved of the new friendship. "I think that's why they were looking for her for the movie; it's because we had this little thing going on on Instagram where we were commenting on each other’s posts, and she seemed like such a nice person."
He admitted how he was a little apprehensive to work with her on the film since "she has a very large social media following" and is a major influencer. Thankfully, she was so easy to work with — "the sweetest person, literally just bubbly, always" — and they got along well.
In fact, Milo said how the Zombies 1 stars were nervous for the new cast members who were joining, because they realized how nerve-wracking it can be to come into the middle of such a big project, but they all meshed together so well from the get-go. "It would’ve been weird without them."
6. He was on Dancing with the Stars, which helped prep him for Zombies 2.
In 2018, Milo partnered with Witney Carson and came in second place on the 27th season of DWTS, getting a perfect score (60 out of 60) on their final dance together.
Milo filmed the first Zombies movie before doing DWTS, so he had a different approach to the franchise's choreography going into filming Zombies 2.
While making Zombies 1 was more about having fun and being OK when you made a mistake, DWTS changed that mindset for Milo. The competition show has a much more hardcore intensity and you really put your body through the ringer.
"I thought that I was in pretty good shape, to begin, but I was so wrong," Milo admitted. "[Witney] killed me every single day, but obviously it was worth it ... I definitely think that the work ethic I sort of discovered and created on Dancing with the Stars helped me so much in Zombies 2."
7. He's a student at New York University.
After graduating from high school in May 2019 (where he rocked his green Zombies hair like the legend he is), Milo headed to New York University. He is a drama major at Tisch School of the Arts, with plans to graduate in 2023.
Fun fact: Fellow Disney Channel alums Cole and Dylan Sprouse both attended NYU and graduated in 2015, though they were part of the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, not Tisch.
8. He's a chef.
When asked what's something specific fans may not know about him, Milo shared how he really enjoys cooking.
His special dish? "I love to make steak. I’ll eat a steak any single day of the week."
9. He has a YouTube channel with BFF Mason Turner.
As evidenced by this throwback video, Milo and Mason have been BFFs for years. They started their YouTube channel, Milo&Mason, in 2018, but (as of this writing) haven't uploaded a new video since February 2019.
They had to take a break because Milo went to film Zombies in Toronto, but they have plans to make more videos. Milo shared how Mason will be joining him at NYU soon, so they're hoping to make more vids in the near future.
