Modern Technology Solutions (MTSI) is an engineering and technology solutions company developing technologies for national defense, security, and other technically challenging strategic problems that is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia and was founded in 1993.
Notable commercial customers of Modern Technology solutions include: A3 Airbus, AeroVironment, BAE Systems, Boeing, Cobham, FAA UAS Test Sites, General Atomics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Orbital ATK, Pratt & Whitney, PrecisionHawk, Raytheon, and Textron. The company also works with the Air Force, Army, Navy, military intelligence agencies, and federal civilian organizations such as the Federal Aviation Administration, Homeland Security, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
A Rapid Aerial Extraction System (RAES) is a tethered deployment system capable of increasing payload speed and range. RAES creates enough vertical lift for loitering fixed/rotary wing or unnmanned wing aircraft to transport objects or people without needing to land using a long tether attached to an orbiting platform. RAES is platform agnostic and consists of a stabilization system, winch, and tether package that helps create the agility of helicopters and the speed, range, and stealth abilities of fixed wing aircrafts. It helps expand what is feasible for special cargo, mobility, and search and rescue operations in both the civilian and defense applications.
The system was initialling developed by missionaries in Central America in the 1950's and further developed by the American Air Force in the 1960's and 1970's. REAS was further developed by Modern Technology Solutions to become useful in field operations. Mike Hostage, Gen. (ret) United States Air Force, made the following statement about Modern Technology Solutions RAES on June 5, 2019:
The recent RAES® demonstration points to a cost-effective and highly adaptable solution to combat search and rescue in the contested domain. The concept may also offer a rapid and covert means of precision insertion and extraction for special operations. The MTSI team is well on its way to producing a game-changing family of capabilities
