The company was formed due to the merger between Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta in March of 1995. Lockheed Martin is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., with various other locations worldwide and employs over 100,000 people. The company operates in four business areas: aeronautics, missiles and fire control (MFC), rotary and missions systems (RMS), and space.
Lockheed Martin serves as one of the world's largest military support, aerospace, security, and technology agencies. Additionally, the company is the world's largest military contractor, with over 75% of its sales coming from military sources, based on its 2014 revenue reporting. Lockheed Martin is also a contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
