Nikolay Semyonov (born Nikolay Nikolaevich Semenov) was a Russian physicist, chemist, professor, and politician. Born on April 3, 1896, in Saratov, Russia, he held citizenship in both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Semyonov was educated at the Saint Petersburg State University and was a doctoral student of Abram Ioffe.
Semyonov was known for his work in chemical transformation. He supervised numerous doctoral students, including Dmitrii Knorre, Nikolay Yenikolopov, Aram Nalbandyan, Vladislav Voyevodsky, and Vladimir Fortov.
He received several prestigious awards throughout his career, including the 1956 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, as well as the Order of Lenin, Order of the October Revolution, Hero of Socialist Labor, Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Lenin Prize, Stalin Prize, and Lomonosov Gold Medal.
Nikolay Semyonov passed away on September 25, 1986, in Moscow, Russia.
