Novozymes is a biotechnology company making industrial enzymes, microorganisms, biopolymers, and other proteins that is headquartered in Bagsværd, Denmark and was founded in 2000 as a spinout of the Novo Nordisk pharmaceutical company. The company has production facilities in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, China, India, and the United States, and has sales offices on more than 30 countries.
Novozymes develops, manufactures, and markets enzymes in five business segments: household care (32% of total sales in 2017), food & beverages (28%), bioenergy (18%), agriculture & feed (15%), and technical & pharma (7%).
On July 3, 2007 Novozymes announced they have reached a partnership agreement with the Center for Sustainable and Green Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) to develop a manufacturing process for plastics and textiles that uses less petroleum derived products and produces less CO2. The total budget of the project is DKK 18 million; consisting of 9 million in funding from the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation and the rest from private investors.
