Otto Loewi (born: 3 6 1873, Frankfurt; died: 25 12 1961, New York City) was a German, Austrian, and American citizen. He was a pharmacist, neuroscientist, professor, and physiologist best known for his work on acetylcholine.
Loewi was educated at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the University of Vienna, and the University of Strasbourg. His academic discipline was pharmacology and therapeutics. He had Oswald Schmiedeberg as his doctoral advisor and Carl Ferdinand Cori as one of his doctoral students.
In 1936, Otto Loewi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in the field.
