Panteleimon Kulish (26 July 1819 – 2 February 1897) was a Ukrainian writer, poet, historian, anthropologist, ethnographer, critic, and contributing editor. He was born in Chernigov Governorate and held citizenship of the Russian Empire . Kulish authored Phonetic form, a work on linguistic analysis .
Throughout his career, Kulish used several pseudonyms such as Панько Казюка, Хуторянин, Козак Белебень, Данило Юс, and Павло Ратай. Kulish's contemporaries and competitors included Ukrainian literary figures such as Taras Shevchenko, Maria Matios, Yurii Andrukhovych, Lina Kostenko, Vasily Livanov, Ivan Kotlyarevsky, Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, Gregory Skovoroda, Oksana Zabuzhko, Ivan Franko, Lesya Ukrainka, Hryhory Kvitka, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Marko Vovchok, and Panas Myrny.
