Paul Cohen

Paul Joseph Cohen was a mathematician born on April 2, 1934, in Long Branch, New Jersey . He held American citizenship and passed away on March 23, 2007, in Stanford, California .

Cohen attended Stuyvesant High School and later pursued higher education at Brooklyn College and the University of Chicago . He was a doctoral student under the guidance of Antoni Zygmund , and his own doctoral student was Peter Sarnak .

In 1966, Cohen received the prestigious Fields Medal for his outstanding contributions to the field of mathematics.
