Pavlo Zahrebelnyi was born on August 25, 1924, in Poltava Oblast. He was a writer, screenwriter, public figure, and politician from Soviet Union and Ukraine. He was educated at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. Pavlo Zahrebelnyi wrote in Ukrainian and worked in various genres, including novels, short stories, romance, and tales.
Some of his notable works include the collection of short stories "Teacher", "Thought of the Immortal", "Short Stories of the Sea Coast", "Ghost", "Where the Larks Sing", "Valley of Long Dreams", and the novel "Miracle" (1968).
Pavlo Zahrebelnyi was also the director of films such as "Missiles Should Not Take Off" and "Checked - No Mines". In addition to his career as a writer and director, Zahrebelnyi was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 10th-11th convocations (1979–1989) and deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR of the 9th convocation (1975–1980). He was a candidate for membership in the Central Committee of the Communist Party (1976-1981) and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (1981-1990).
Over his lifetime, Pavlo Zahrebelnyi received several awards, including the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, Order of Friendship of Peoples, and Hero of Ukraine. He was married to Zagrebelna Ella Mikhailovna, and they had two children: Zagrebelna Marina Pavlivna and Mykhailo Pavlovych Zagrebelny.
Pavlo Zahrebelnyi passed away on February 3, 2009, in Kyiv.
