Peter Debye was a physicist, chemist, scientist, engineer, and professor , born in Maastricht on March 24, 1884 . He held citizenship in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United States .
Debye was educated at RWTH Aachen University and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich , where Arnold Sommerfeld was his doctoral advisor . Notable works by Debye include the Debye length and the Debye–Hückel equation . Among his notable contributions to the field of physics, he developed the Debye model .
Peter Debye's academic discipline was in physics . He had numerous doctoral students, including Wiktor Kemula, Horst Müller, Rudolf Hermann, Hertha Sponer, and Hans Falkenhagen . His other students were Felix Bloch, Lars Onsager, Fritz Zwicky, Paul Scherrer, and Rudolf Peierls .
Over the course of his career, Peter Debye received several awards, including the 1936 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the Max Planck Medal . He passed away on November 2, 1966 in Ithaca, New York .
