Felix Bloch was born on October 23, 1905, in Zürich, Switzerland. He held citizenship in both Switzerland and the United States. Bloch was a physicist who was educated at ETH Zurich and Leipzig University. His doctoral advisors were Werner Heisenberg and Peter Debye. Bloch's notable work includes his contributions to nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). He is also known for concepts such as Bloch oscillation, Bloch wave, Bloch wall, Bloch's theorem, Bloch sphere, and Spin wave.
During his career, Felix Bloch specialized in the academic discipline of physics. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1952 for his research in NMR along with Edward Purcell. Bloch taught and supervised doctoral students such as Michael Schick and Carson D. Jeffries.
Felix Bloch passed away on September 10, 1983, in Zürich, Switzerland.
