Philip II of Spain was born on May 21, 1527, in Valladolid. His parents were Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and Isabella of Portugal. He was a Monarch and known for being the King of Spain from 1556, King of Portugal from 1580, and King of Naples and Sicily from 1554 until his death in 1598. Philip II also held the title of jure uxoris King of England and Ireland through his marriage to Queen Mary I from 1554 until her death in 1558.
Philip II had several children, including Carlos, Prince of Asturias; Isabella Clara Eugenia; Infanta Catherine Michelle of Spain; Ferdinand, Prince of Asturias; Diego, Prince of Asturias; and Philip III of Spain.
Philip II was the founder of the Council of Italy and was also known by the nickname "Philip the Prudent". He owned various properties and artifacts such as the Arnolfini Portrait, Royal Palace of Aranjuez, Alcázar of Segovia, Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Abada (rhinoceros), and Castle of Santa Catalina in Cádiz.
Philip II died on September 13, 1598, in Madrid.
