Сity in northeastern Ukraine. The administrative center of the Poltava region and the Poltava region. It is located on the Dnieper lowland, on the Vorskla River.
Poltava is located 301 km east of Kiev. Geographical coordinates: 49º 35' north latitude, 34º 33' east longitude, 140 m above sea level.
The city is located on the Dnieper lowland, on both banks of the Vorskla River. One of the tributaries of the river - Kolomak, flows into it within the city. Within the city there are several small natural lakes and many artificial ponds. The relief of the city is mostly uniform, at a distance of 1.5 km from the river there is a sharp rise (the right bank of the Vorskla, on which the city is located, is steeper, the height of the hills reaches 80-100 m relative to the level of the river).
The geographical position of Poltava is quite advantageous and, over the course of history, has significantly influenced the development of the city. The city is located on important transport routes and provides communication between the largest cities of Ukraine - Kiev, Kharkov and the Dnieper.
As of November 1, 2019, the population of the city is 286,850 people of the present population[2].
About 87% of the population are Ukrainians. About 44% of the able-bodied population is employed in industry, 16% in the service sector, 6% in science, culture, and education.
The city is divided into 3 administrative districts:
- Kievsky (ukr. Kievsky), is located in the northern, northwestern, central part of the city. Area - 54.37 km² (52.8% of the city area). The population is 112 thousand people. The area is home to a large number of industrial enterprises and private sectors. The district includes microdistricts (official ones are in bold): 1st city. hospital, 5th school, OTSEVUM (DK PTK), Yurovka, Brailki, GRL, Rybtsy, Ivonchentsy, Zygina sq., Pavlenki, Kievsky railway station, Meat processing plant, Poltava-4 (Aviagorodok), Polovki, Vorskla stadium, Agrarian Academy , Institute of Communications, Porcelain Factory, Concrete Concrete Plant, Automotive Plant, Experimental, Yakovtsy, Artbaza, Pushkarevskaya Street.
- Podolsky (Ukrainian Podilsky, until 2016 - Leninsky) district. It is located in the eastern and southeastern part of the city, in the floodplain of the Vorskla River. The area is 29.88 km², the population is 53 thousand people. The district includes microdistricts: Krutoy Bereg, Vakulentsy, Chervony Shlyah, Voronina, Rogoznaya, Dublyanshchina, Novostroenie, Lesok, South Station, Podil, Levada, Klimovka, Zheleznodorozhnikov village.
- Shevchenkovskiy (Ukrainian: Shevchenkivskiy, until 2016 — Oktyabrskiy) is located in the central and southwestern part of the city. It occupies an area of 20.77 km². The population is 148 thousand people (in 2005). The area is the historical and cultural center of the city. The district includes microdistricts (official ones are in bold): Center, Belaya Gazebo, Almazny, Bozhenko, Bus Station, Geophysics, Krug, Motel, Ocean, Ocheretyanka, Victory Park, Gardens-1, Gardens-2, Ognivka (Gardens-3), Staraya Bus Station (AS-2), Furmanova, Kobyshchany, Kievskoe Highway, Central Market, Tchaikovsky, Yar, Red Barracks.
