Satellite navigation is a system designed to determine the location of ground, water and air objects, as well as low-orbit spacecraft. Satellite navigation also makes it possible to obtain the speed and direction of the signal receiver. In addition, they can be used to obtain the exact time. Such systems consist of space equipment and ground segment.
The main elements of the satellite navigation system:
- An orbital constellation of satellites emitting special radio signals
- Ground control and monitoring system, including units for measuring the current positions of the satellites and transmitting the information received to them to correct orbital information
- User equipment of satellite navigation systems used for determination of coordinates (GNSS Receiver)
