Severo Ochoa was a Spanish-American physician, biochemist, and writer. He was born on September 24, 1905, in Luarca, Spain. Ochoa was a citizen of Spain and the United States.
He completed his education at Complutense University of Madrid and New York University School of Medicine. His doctoral advisor was Otto Fritz Meyerhof, and one of his doctoral students was Arthur Kornberg.
Throughout his career, Ochoa was recognized for his contributions to the field of medicine and biochemistry. In 1959, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. He remained in Spain throughout much of his life.
Severo Ochoa passed away on November 1, 1993, in Madrid, Spain.
