Sydney Brenner

Sydney Brenner was born on January 13, 1927, in Germiston, and held citizenship in both the United Kingdom and South Africa. Brenner was a geneticist who studied at various educational institutions, including Exeter College, Oxford, University of Oxford, King's College, Cambridge, and University of the Witwatersrand.

His doctoral advisor was Cyril Norman Hinshelwood, and two of his doctoral students were John Graham White and Gerald M. Rubin. Brenner received the 2002 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and primarily resided in South Africa. He passed away on April 5, 2019, in Singapore.
