Tate & Lyle is an ingredient and solutions manufacturer for the food, beverage, and industrial industries that is headquartered in London, England and was founded in 1921 by Abram Lyle. When the company was founded in 1921, it was a sugar refinery located in Liverpool, England. Since its founding the company has grown to over 70 locations which can be found all over the world.
The company specializes in making ingredients for the following products beverages, dairy, soups, sauces, dressings, baked goods, snacks, and confectionary. The types of ingredients made by Tate & Lyle are sweeteners, texturants, fibres, stabiliser systems, acidulants, and industrial starches.
On May 13, 1998 Tate & Lyle acquired a corn processor and food services company called Stately operating out of Rolling Meadows, Illinois for $1.48 billion. The acquisition secured 25% of the high-fructose corn syrup market in the United States for Tate & Lyle.
