Founded in 2007 by Peter Holten Mühlmann, Danish-based Trustpilot is a global, mulit-language, review community which works to build trust and transparency between consumers and businesses. Trustpilot works to ensure reviews comply with their guidelines and to combat fraudulent behavior.
Trustpilot has a website where users can search out companies and where they offer trust ratings. They also offer API's to integrate their review platform onto e-commerce sites which can be customized to fit the host-sites aesthetic. One of these sites is Google. Trustpilot has a licensing relationship which covers Seller Rating Extensions, or customer reviews, which Google says drive purchases on ads with ratings versus ads without customer ratings.
Through Trustpilot, anyone can review a product or service so long as they are validated as having received that product or service. And, at the same time, companies whose products or services are reviewed are unable to remove negative reviews. Businesses can subscribe to Trustpilot, through which they can act on their reviews.
Trustpilot has additional services through its subscription, including automatic review invitations, widgets for websites and marketing activities and access to advanced statistics and analysis.
