Throughout his career, Brand has received multiple awards, including the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, NASA Distinguished Service Medal, NASA Exceptional Service Medal, Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Gold Medal of the International Aviation Federation named after K. E. Tsiolkovsky (2005), the Gold Medal of the International Aviation Federation named after Yu. A. Gagarin (1976), and Honorary diploma named after V. M. Komarov (1983, 1991). In 1997, Brand's name was inducted into the American Astronaut Hall of Fame. Furthermore, he received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Colorado in 2000 and became an Honorary Citizen of Kaliningrad.
