Ventec Life Systems is a Washington-based company that has designed a portable product, called VOSCN, which is an acronym for the components of the machine: ventilator, oxygen (concentrator), suction, cough (assistant) and nebulizer. It can be used for a variety of diseases and medical issues, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and lung cancer.
The five aforementioned functions are included in VOSCN but users can choose to use one, a combination, or all five of the functions. It provides various ways to use the machine, including invasive, non-invasive, and a mouthpiece. It is capable of delivering 6 liters of oxygen per minute and external oxygen sources can be connected when needed. VOSCN can be used multiple environments such as home, hospital, institutional, and transport. It has a nine-hour battery life and is operated through its touch screen interface.
In 2020, Ventec Life Systems and General Motors partnered to manufacture ventilators at a large scale in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, which has led to shortages of ventilators in health institutions.
Their ventilators are equipped with a touchscreen operation capabilities, are mobile, provide up to nine hours of on-board battery life, and uninterrupted ventilation between therapies.
They look to provide up to 10,000 ventilator units per month, and 30,000 surgical masks per week.
