COVID-19
With the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus), President Donald Trump has signed a presidential directive that orders General Motors to begin and prioritize ventilator and mask production to support the needs of coronavirus patients. They look to manufacture approximately 10,000 critical care ventilators per month. GM has partnered with Ventec Life Systems to assist in the manufacturing of the units. They will also be able to manufacture up to 50,000 Level 1 surgical masks per day, and look to increase the numbers to 100,000 per day.
The order from the United States President did not come with a federal contract which makes selling to the states much more difficult for the automaker.
