Nissan is an automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Yokohama, Japan. Nissan was founded in 1933 by Yoshisuke Aikawa.
Nissan was established in December 1933 as Jidosha-Seizo Kabushiki-Kaisha (Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd.) by Yoshisuke Aikawa. The company's name was changed in 1934 to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. From 1938 through the end of World War II, Nissan switched from producing small passenger vehicles to producing trucks and military vehicles.
Allied occupation forces took control over Nissan's productions in 1945 and didn't release full control until 1955. Nissan experienced incredible company growth over the course of the 1960s due to the introduction of its new Datsun models, like the Bluebird, the Cedric, and the Sunny. The company continued to expand throughout the 1970s after world energy crises resulted in the rise of exports of fuel-efficient Japanese vehicles.
Nissan began receiving recognition for its environmental efforts in 1991 with its first award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). That same year, Nissan introduced its Future Electric Vehicle concept car. After undergoing a short economic struggle in the late '90s, Nissan and Renault created the Renault-Nissan Alliance (now known as the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance), and Nissan began overhauling its INFINITI line. Throughout the twenty-first century, Nissan has continued to develop its electric vehicles, now offering both hybrids and 100 percent electric cars.
