Victor Zalgaller (birth name Viktor Abramovich Zalgaller) was born on December 25, 1920, in Novgorod Oblast. He held citizenship in both the Soviet Union and Israel. Zalgaller was a mathematician by occupation and pursued his education at Saint Petersburg State University.
He was a doctoral student under the guidance of his doctoral advisor Aleksandr Danilovich Aleksandrov and later mentored Yuri Burago as a doctoral student. Zalgaller passed away on October 2, 2020, in Lehavim.
Throughout his life, Victor Zalgaller received numerous awards for his bravery and service. These awards included the Medal "For Bravery" (USSR), Order of the Patriotic War 1st class, Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", Medal "For Military Merit", Order of the Red Star, Medal "Veteran of Labor", and the Zhukov medal.
