Vonage is a cloud communications company providing services to businesses and consumers. For consumers, the company offers home telephone services. For businesses, Vonage offers unified communications, contact centers, and programmable communications API, including integrated voice, text, video, data, and mobile application services.
Vonage was founded in 2001 and was an early provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and was focused on consumer business. Beginning in 2013, Vonage began to shift the company's focus toward business cloud communications through acquisitions of various UCaaS, CPaaS, and CCaaS providers. On November 22, 2021, it was announced that Vonage would be acquired by Ericsson in a $6.2 billion USD cash purchase. The acquisition was conducted by means of a merger agreement through which Ericsson acquired Vonage's outstanding shares.
Vonage's customers have included ABInBev, Allstate, Domino's, RSPCA, DHL, Glassdoor, MedXM, The Princton Review, Thomson Reuters, and Zipcar.
Vonage's business platform offers various cloud communication services:
- Communications APIs for programmable messaging, voice, and video
- Unified Communications, including flexible communication and collaboration solutions for employees across various channels
- Contact Centres, including support for sales agents
- Conversational Commerce, which works to provide sales through customer integrations
These services are part of Vonage's communications platform as a service (CPaaS). Vonage has been, by some, considered a pioneer in the CPaaS space. Vonage's CPaaS platform works over public and private IP networks and is primarily focused on customer communication channels. The CPaaS platform allows users to integrate various communication tools, including messaging, video, and voice solutions.
