Walter Gilbert

Walter Gilbert, born on March 21, 1932, in Boston, is a physicist, biochemist, and chemist from the United States. Gilbert was educated at Harvard University, Trinity College, Cambridge, and the University of Cambridge. He is the founder of Biogen, a biotechnology company located in the United States.

In his academic career, Gilbert's doctoral advisor was Abdus Salam, and he mentored doctoral students, such as George Church, Gerald Guralnik, and Allan Maxam. Walter Gilbert was awarded the 1980 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
