World of Tanks (from English - "World of Tanks"; abbr. WoT) is a client-based team-based massively multiplayer online game dedicated to armored vehicles of the mid-20th century . Players have at their disposal more than 40 combat maps created on the basis of real locations of the Second World War, and historically reliable vehicles of 11 nations with a total number of more than 600 units. The concept of World of Tanks is based on team tank battles between players (PvP), in which each player controls an armored combat vehicle. The game features five types of vehicles (light, medium or heavy tanks, tank destroyers and self-propelled guns), each of which has distinctive gameplay features and roles in battle. The game was released on August 12, 2010 and initially had only a Russian-language version. The release of the localized game World of Tanks in Europe and North America took place on April 12, 2011.
