Established in 2012 with headquarters in Belmont, California, Avegant is a company specializing in the development of display technology to enable augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Avegant's core technology uses micromirror arrays to develop pixel-free images for mobile media consumption applications and virtual and augmented reality. In Fall 2015, Avegant launched its first consumer product named the Glyph. It was designed to be a wearable display device.
On September 7 2021, Avegant announced different products; the AG-30L 30º and the AG-50L 50º LED light engines. The 30º AR light engine utilizes illumination technology to minimize engine volume and weight while preserving MTF. The AG-50L facilitates a bigger field of view, including an immersive AR experience for its users in the compact, light glasses structure used in the AG-30L. In late 2021, a limited array of engineering samples of the AG-30L light engine was made available. Samples of the AG-50L light engine were slated for availability in early 2022, while mass production is set for 2023.
Edward Tang, CEO of Avegant, said:
"Our customers have been asking us to help them enable true AR glasses for their consumers. The key to reducing weight and volume sufficiently to reach the glasses form factor is innovation in light engine technologies. Our new illumination architectures and optical designs dramatically reduce the size of LED light engines for AR. With these new light engines, we solve our customers' biggest challenges in delivering a smaller, glasses form factor in a manufacturable way.
