Eleanor was the daughter of Ferdinand I of Aragon and Eleanor of Alburquerque. She held Portuguese nationality and was the spouse of Edward, King of Portugal.
Eleanor and Edward had several children, including Afonso V of Portugal, Ferdinand, Duke of Viseu, Eleanor of Portugal, Holy Roman Empress, Joan of Portugal, and Catherine of Portugal (nun). Eleanor also served as the regent of Portugal as the guardian of her son.
