FC Bayern Munich was founded in 1900 by 11 football players, led by Franz John. The club has its period of greatest success in the mid-1970s when, under the captaincy of Franz Beckenbauer, it won the European Cup three consecutive times (1974-1976)
Bayern Munich is a professional football club from the German city of Munich. It is the most titled team not only in Germany, but also in the world. Bayern have set a lot of
The club from Munich is well known outside of its country and has long been a symbol of success. Many players in the world dream of playing for Bayern, which has become the flagship of German club football in its more than 100-year history.
About the club
Bayern was founded in 1900, after a group of eleven people separated from the gymnastics section of the city of Munich.
The first club meeting in history was held in the Schwabing cafe "Gisela". The newly minted FC decided to be named after the German southeastern land of Bavaria, whose capital is Munich. The first president was a n Berlin Franz Jon. Paul Franke was chosen as the coach and captain of the team. The debut friendly match was played against a club with the uncomplicated name "1st Munich". The meeting ended with a confident victory for Bayern with a three-goal difference - 5:2.ative
The club quickly gained popularity due to its proximity to the local university, whose students attended the matches of the new team with great interest. After moving to Leopoldstrasse, Bayern defeated Wacker— its local competitor. Since that time, the struggle for the title of the best team in Munich began. In 1910, Bayern became the champion of the Eastern District, and the following season repeated this success.
After 10 years, the club became the largest in Munich. In 1926, Bayern won the championship of Southern Germany. The team put its first national title on its trophy shelf in 1932, when Eintracht Frankfurt was beaten. At that time, Richard Cohn was the coach of Munich, but when Adolf Hitler came to power, he was forced to flee the country because of his Jewish roots.
The Second World War had a negative impact not only on Bayern, but also on the entire German sport. During this time, the Munich residents have lost their former popularity and sporting achievements. After the war, the club missed 56 of its members who died on the battlefields. Seven people were sentenced to death for political, religious or racist reasons.
Bayern held its first post-war match in June 1945. The opponent was "Wacker", who prevailed with a score of 4:3. The Bavarians were able to taste the trophies again only in 1957, when they won the German Cup.
Heyday
The German Bundesliga was founded in 1963, but initially the "reds" were not on the list of its participants. Munich's financial problems began again, which forced them to bet on young people.
Club president Wilhelm Neudecker invited Zlatko Tchaikovsky to the post of mentor, who led Bayern to the main German championship already in 1965. The debut season in the Bundesliga turned out to be successful for the team — it took 3rd place, and also won the National Cup. The success of the Bavarians at that time was associated with Franz Beckenbauer, Sepp Mayer and Gerd Muller. In the 1966/67 season, the Munich team won the Cup of Cups.
The first victory in the Bundesliga Bayern Munich celebrated in 1969. The German Cup was also won in the same season. The Munich team received international recognition after the appointment of Udo Lattek as head coach.
The Cologne native brought Uli Hoeness and Paul Breitner to the team. The updated Bayern did not leave any chances to their opponents in the European Champions Cup, having won three finals in a row (1974, 1975, 1976). In addition, the Intercontinental Cup was won in a match against the Brazilian club Cruzeiro. But the European Super Cup then "red" did not submit. In 1975, Bayern beat Dynamo Kyiv, and a year later Anderlecht took its toll, scoring two goals against Munich.
FC Hollywood
After several triumphant European campaigns, Bayern's successes have come to an end. Fans had to wait for the beginning of the 80s to see the victories of their favorites again. In 1983, the club was again headed by Udo Lattek, who won three Bundesliga championships and two German Cups for Bayern. Munich continued to win regularly at the national level, but in Europe they repeatedly failed. The beginning of the 90s of the last century can also not be called successful for Bayern.
Everything changed with the arrival of the legendary Franz Beckenbauer. "Kaiser Franz" instantly gave the result — the 1993/94 season "Bavarians" finished on the first line in the Bundesliga standings. In 1994, Beckenbauer became president of the main Munich team. Giovanni Trapattoni and Otto Rehagel, who coached the club after Franz's departure, failed to achieve victories. In 1996, Beckenbauer again led the Reds and made them UEFA Cup winners.
The nickname of FC Hollywood was not given to the Bavarians because of the stellar composition, as many people think. The fact is that in the 90s the atmosphere in the club was far from ideal. People in the management of Bayern constantly swore and argued with each other. The same applied to the players themselves. As a result, the newspapers only had time to cover the details of the scandals in Bayern, which turned into a real Hollywood with all its shortcomings.
Super Club
The new successes of the most titled club in the country are associated with Ottmar Hitzfeld, who brought FC Bayern four Bundesliga golds in six seasons. In 1999, the Reds were in the final of the main European championship, but the English Manchester United got in their way. In 2001, Bayern returned the favor to the Red Devils by defeating them at the quarterfinal stage. Munich managed to reach the final, where Valencia was beaten in a penalty shootout. After this victory, Bayern were again talked about as one of the best clubs in the world.
Munich had to wait more than 10 years for the next victory in the Champions League. In 2010, Bayern were in the final again, but the trophy went to Inter Jose Mourinho, and two years later the Reds beat Chelsea in the main match of the tournament. In 2013, the Bavarians participated in the final for the third time in the last four years. This time they were opposed by Borussia Dortmund. Jurgen Klopp's team managed to respond to the goals of Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben with only one goal scored. As a result, Bayern won the title of the winner of the LCH for the fifth time in its history. In addition, the club has won the national championship and the cup, having issued the "golden treble".
Our time
Now Bayern continues to regularly replenish its collection of trophies, winning the Bundesliga and the German Cup. In the Champions League, the Munich team's success is much more modest, but it can boast of almost annual participation in the late stages of the tournament.
"Bayern" has consistently won the main German championship since the 2012/13 season. Of course, the success of the "Reds" was largely due to weak competition in the German championship (although Borussia Dortmund is doing everything possible to prevent the "Star of the South" from relaxing) - however, this does not negate the fact that Bayern is one of the strongest teams in the world.
Composition and transfers
The most expensive transfers in the history of Bayern were the following signings: Lucas Hernandez - 80 million euros (2019/20 season), Corentin Tolisso - 41.5 million euros (2017/18), Javi Martinez - 40 million euros (2012/13), Arturo Vidal - 37.5 million euros (2015/16) and Mario Gotze - 37 million euros (2013/14).
As for sales, the "Star of the South" managed to make the most of Douglas Costa (40 million euros, 2018/19), Mats Hummels (30.5 million euros, 2019/20), Toni Kroos (25 million euros, 2014/15) and Owen Hargreaves (25 million euros, 2007/08).
If we are talking about Bayern's bid for the 2019/20 season, then we see 29 performers in the main roster of the Munich club, including 15 foreign players. The total cost of the first team of the "Stars of the South" according to the calculations of analysts of the authoritative portal transfermarkt.de It amounts to 756.58 million euros: according to this indicator, the Bavarians are the first in the Bundesliga and 6th in the world after Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint—Germain. The most expensive footballers of the foundation are Serge Gnabry (72 million euros), Jozua Kimmich (64), as well as Robert Lewandowski, Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Hernandez (all — 56 million euros).
Since November 2019, Hans-Dieter Flick has been the head coach of Bayern, with a contract signed until June 2023. The average age of the Munich Grandee's application is 25.2 years, which is an ideal fusion of youth and experience. By the way, the most experienced player of the first team is Captain Manuel Neuer (the goalkeeper was born on March 27, 1986), and the youngest is center forward Joshua Zirkzee, born on May 22, 2001.
Records
The greatest number of matches played for the Reds: Sepp Mayer - 700 games, Oliver Kahn - 632, Gerd Muller - 605, Franz Beckenbauer - 582, Hans-Georg Schwarzenberg - 554.
The best goalkeepers of Bayern in history were Gerd Muller (564 goals scored), Robert Lewandowski (230; statistics as of May 20, 2020), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (218), Rainer Olhauser (215) and Thomas Muller (195; similarly, data from May 20, 2020).
In the entire history, only three Bayern players have won the Golden Ball: the pioneer was Gerd Muller, who received an honorary individual award in 1970, and subsequently Franz Beckenbauer and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge took the ZM twice ("Kaiser Franz" — in 1972 and 1976, and "Kalle" - in 1980 and 1981). And Muller also earned two Golden Boots (1970 and 1972)!
25 Bayern players have become world champions at various times (the last time the gold of the World Cup was won by Frenchman Corentin Tolisso in 2018), and 19 players of the Stars of the South managed to triumph at the European Championships (the extreme success was in the asset of Portuguese Renato Sanches, CHE-2016).
Fans
Bayern Munich is one of the most popular clubs in Germany and the world. The number of fans of the "Star of the South" is estimated in tens of millions, and the number of officially registered club members, according to the data announced at the general meeting of the Board of 2018, is 291 thousand (first place in the world). Among the popular fans of the "reds" are boxer Wladimir Klitschko, Pope Benedict XVI, tennis player Boris Becker and many others.
The fan clubs of Bayern have grown like mushrooms after the rain, not only across the country, but also in neighboring Austria and Switzerland, from where fans regularly travel to the home matches of the "Stars of the South". By the way, the attendance of the Allianz Arena is almost always 75 thousand people (100%).
FC Bayern is famous for its ultras. The most famous groups are "Schickeria München", "Inferno Bavaria", "Red Munichs'89", "Südkurve'73" and others. The most popular songs that are sung from the stands of the Allianz Arena are "Stern des Südens" ("Star of the South") and "Mia San Mia" ("We are who we are").
Key confrontations
For many years, the main opponent of Bayern Munich Borussia Dortmund is playing on the domestic arena: the last time the bumblebees managed to leave the "Star of the South" behind, winning gold medals of the Bundesliga in the 2011/12 season. The matches with Dortmund are called Of course, one of the main enemies of the Reds is Munich-1860, the confrontation with which has a derby character and is particularly principled in the fan environment. Alas, due to the fact that the 1860s last played in the Bundesliga in the distant 2003/04 season and are now in the third strongest division in Germany, their meetings with Bayern are very rare."Der Clasiker" and "German Derby".
Also among the most fundamental we can name the battle with "Nuremberg" — the so-called "Derby of Bavaria" ("citizens" represent Nuremberg, which, like Munich, is part of the federal state of Bavaria).
Form
Initially, the main colors of Bayern were blue and white. But six years after the foundation, the team was faced with a lack of finances necessary for further development. It was decided to join the Munich Sports Club (MSC). Bayern retained its legal independence, but had to fulfill one condition — to change the club colors to red and white. This color scheme has been preserved to our time.
By the way, the German brand Adidas continues to be the technical partner of Bavaria: a new fifteen-year agreement was signed in 2015 and is calculated until 2030, and the Reds will become richer by 900 million euros during this time (plus 60 million euros annually)! The title sponsor of the Munich Grand Prix is the leading German telecommunications company Deutsche Telecom AG, whose logo is emblazoned in the center of the front of the Bayern T-shirts.
In the 2019/20 season, the Bavarians performed in three different sets of uniforms designed by Adidas designers:
1. The home uniform was finally presented completely in red. Fans of the "Star of the South" condemned the last version with a mix of red and blue — so it was decided to get rid of the last shade. All over the field of T-shirts we see a geometric pattern applied in a lighter tone of red and vaguely reminiscent of the famous inflatable panels of the Allianz Arena. At the same time, the shorts are classic, plain. The collar has a stylish V-shaped neckline. Logos of all sponsors and surnames with numbers are printed in white2. The guest uniform is presented in white, and the lower part of the T-shirts is decorated with a gray pattern. The stripes on the sleeves, logos and surnames with numbers are also dark gray..
3. The third, which is also a backup form, is dark blue, complemented by beautiful red inserts. It looks very fresh anStadium
pressive!
Since 2005, the home stadium of the "Stars of the South" is the Allianz Arena, built from scratch. According to both designers and ordinary fans, this complex is one of the most beautiful in the world. Previously, Bayern played at the so-called "First City Stand" (until 1925), the Munich City Stadium (until 1972) and the Olympiastadion (until 2005).
This Munich stadium was among the arenas that were supposed to host the matches of the 2020 European Championship, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tournament was postponed to 2021. Moreover, the Allianz Arena has the honor to become part of the World Cup 2024, which will be held on the fields of Germany! Nothing surprising: the Bayern Munich arena remains one of the most modern, spacious and functional in the country.
