Jean-Francois "Jeff" Clavier is the founder and managing partner at Uncork Capital, a seed-stage venture firm in Palo Alto and San Francisco. He founded Uncork Capital (originally called SoftTech VC) in 2004 to provide support and capital for companies in their first eighteen months of life and was considered an early super angel investor. He sits on the boards of Arch Systems, DocSend, Intermix, Pi Charging, Scroll, and other Uncork portfolio companies. He also served a four-year term on the National Venture Capital Association board.
Clavier was named to the Forbes Midas List of top venture capitalists in the world in 2016 and 2017. He was also an early venture capital blogger starting in 2004, is a frequent speaker at conferences, and is a TV commentator.
Jeff Clavier invests in a wide range of sectors, from business-to-business software companies to marketplaces and connected devices. Through his firm Uncork, Clavier has helped numerous companies reach successful outcomes, including Fitbit, Sendgrid, Eventbrite, Postmates, and Poshmark. His current investments include ClassDojo, Vidyard, Shippo, Front, Usergems, and MakersPlace.
While still at the Paris Descartes University, Jeff Clavier joined Effix, a fintech startup that sold to Reuters. He started as one of the initial developers and eventually led Effix as CTO. In 2000, he immigrated to the United States and joined Reuters’s $450 million corporate venture capital fund RVC as a general partner in Silicon Valley.
Clavier was born and raised in France and graduated from the Paris Descartes University with a master's in computer science.
