Founded on July 14, 2014, by Edith Harbaugh and John Kodumal in Oakland, California, LaunchDarkly is a feature management platform for software developers. The primary focus of LaunchDarkly is feature flagging as a service, which allows developers to contain at-risk sections of code or infrastructure with a flag. The flags allow developers to easily turn a segment of code on or off independently from the rest of the code, known as dark launching. This allows developers to launch new features to small batches of users, known as beta testing, and track the impact on application usage. Additionally, feature launches can be suspended in a time-efficient manner if there are unforeseen errors.
LaunchDarkly has software development kits (SDKs) for several coding languages and operating systems, including:
- Java
- JavaScript
- PHP
- Python
- Go
- Node.JS
- .NET
- Ruby
- Python Twisted
- iOS
- Android
Software integrations for LaunchDarkly are available. The integrations are designed to assist and foster communication in regards to feature flags. The available integrations are:
- Slack
- HipChat
- Webhooks
- Optimizely
- New Relic
- Visual Studio Team Services
- Bitbucket Pipelines
