Nikolay Basov was born on December 14, 1922, in Usman, Russia. He is known for the founding of quantum electronics. He was educated at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the National Research Nuclear University MEPI. His doctoral advisor was Alexander Prokhorov. Basov's occupations included being a physicist, politician, and inventor.
Throughout his life, Nikolay Basov received numerous awards, such as the Lomonosov Gold Medal, Kalinga Prize, Order "For Merit to the Fatherland", 2nd class, Hero of Socialist Labor, Order of Lenin, Lenin Prize, USSR State Prize, and Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class.
Basov passed away on July 1, 2001, in Moscow. He was the child of Gennady Fedorovich Basov and Zinaida Andreyevna Molchanova.
