Scott Farquhar founded the software company Atlassian in 2002 with his college friend Mike Cannon-Brookes. The two met in the same scholarship course at the University of New South Wales in 1998 at the age of 18. In 2001, they registered the company name Atlassian, inspired by the Greek titan. In 2002, the two launched the company with the introduction of Jira 1.0. At the time of founding Atlassian, Farquhar and Cannon-Brookes did not know what kind of company it would be but instead focused on creating a work environment where they could be who they authentically were and did not have to conform.
Today, Atlassian is a multibillion-dollar, global, publicly traded software company that offers team collaboration and productivity software.
Scott Farquhar earned his Bachelor of Science (Business Information Technology) from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2002. He graduated from James Ruse High School in 1997.
