Symrise is a flavor and fragrance company founded on February 20, 2003 in Holzminden, Germany, as the result of the merging of two companies: Haarmann & Reimer and Dragoco. Symrise specializes in making flavors and fragrances that enhance nutritional and sensory properties of products such as food, perfumes, and cosmetics. The company makes over 30,000 products primarily out of raw materials such as animals products, fruits, vegetables, and other plant materials. Symrise is a prominent player in the menthol market.
Symrise expanded its Indonesian innovation center facilities in 2019 in order to develop product ranges that are tailored to the market in Southeast Asia. The company expanded in Nigeria in 2019 with the launch of new application laboratories in Lagos as part of their initiative in West Africa to service consumers by sourcing local production inputs. The facility aims to help Nigerian manufacturers create affordable consumer brands like beverages, toothpaste, cereals, detergents, washing up liquid, beauty products and personal hygiene products.
Diana is the name of Symrise’s nutrition division which is focused on natural ingredient-based solutions in food, pet food and aquaculture and also is involved in the probiotics domain through a majority stake in Probi. Diana Nova is part of their incubation structure which focuses on new areas in health and nutrition.
The scent and care segment of Symrise produces fragrances, cosmetic ingredients and aroma molecules for manufacturing perfumes, personal care and cosmetic products, cleaning products and detergents, home fragrances and oral care products.
Symrise joined with other firms in founding the One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B) coalition which focuses on agriculture and the development of environmentally friendly agriculture methods.
On July 10, 2017, Symrise acquired Cobell, a supplier of fruit and vegetable juices for the United Kingdom and Europe, for an undisclosed amount of money.
