Union Square Ventures is a New York-based venture capital firm that focuses on companies which provide services that can potentially be transformative to major economic markets. It was founded in 2003 by Fred Wilson and Brad Burnham.
The firm states that it invests in companies that seek to broaden the access to its services or products. The access can usually be broadened due to advancements in technology and by generating online platforms that can be accessed anywhere in the world. Industries in which Union Square Ventures works include healthcare, education technology, and digital assets.
The company announced plans to invest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies in 2018. It stated that it would not establish a separate fund for this venture and that it is planning to invest in these industries for the next ten years. In 2019, Union Square Ventures raised more than $428 billion for a new venture capital fund as well as an opportunity fund.
Union Square Ventures also has a networking group which aims to be a resource for direct peer introductions and access to cross-company management training.
