W. E. B. Du Bois was a human rights activist, historian, novelist, philosopher, writer, poet, journalist, and teacher. He also worked as a photographer. Du Bois was born on February 23, 1868, in Berkshire County, Massachusetts and held citizenship in the United States.
Du Bois was educated at Fisk University, Heidelberg University, Harvard College, Humboldt University of Berlin, and Harvard University. Gustav von Schmoller served as his doctoral advisor.
Among the notable works of W. E. B. Du Bois are "The Souls of Black Folk" and the biography "John Brown". Du Bois was the founder of the Niagara Movement, an important precursor to the modern civil rights movement.
W. E. B. Du Bois passed away on August 27, 1963, in Accra.
