Hans Jonas (born October 5, 1903) was a German philosopher and environmentalist. He was born in Mönchengladbach, Germany and held German citizenship.
Jonas was educated at prominent institutions including the University of Marburg, Heidelberg University, University of Freiburg, and Humboldt University of Berlin. His doctoral advisor was the influential philosopher Martin Heidegger.
In addition to his work as a philosopher, Jonas was actively involved in environmentalism. He died in New York City on February 5, 1993.
