Horizon Quantum Computing is a developer of computer programming tools intended to bridge the gap between quantum computers and conventional software development. The company's tools are meant to simplify and expedite the process of developing quantum software applications.
Horizon Quantum Computing wants to increase the productivity of experienced computing researchers. They also want to develop tools to remove the need for prior quantum computing experience and make the development of quantum-enhanced applications easier and more accessible to software developer.
The platform of Horizon Quantum Computing is focused on offering an approach to quantum computing that would allow programs written in a single unified programming language to be compiled and run on either conventional or quantum computers.
Their technology includes a process that automatically constructs quantum algorithms based on programs written in Matlab or Octave. A source code is parsed and recast in a form intended to untangle and simplify the code and detect quantum speedups. This detection then works to replace these elements of the program with quantum subroutines intended to accomplish the same task. And these elements are then to be translated into basic quantum algorithms and processed into a quantum program.
They are also working on developing a compiler stack intended to span the chain from algorithm construction to physical level implementation.
Horizon Quantum Computing was founded by Joe Fitzsimons, a theoretical physicist with 14 years experience in quantum computing research, in January 2018. Joe Fitzsimons founded the company to try and bridge the gap between quantum computers and conventional software development. Dr. Si-Hui Tan joined Horizon computing shortly after inception to help pursue Joe Fitzsimons' goal. Previously she worked as a research scientist.
