Microsoft Designer is a generative AI application that helps users create designs from short descriptions and is developed through an integration with DALL-E 2 by OpenAI. The app allows users to create graphics for various purposes, including logos, social media posts, invitations, and website banners; but unlike other generative AI design app'sapps, Microsoft designerDesigner offers templates and allows the user to edit or customize the generated image or template to suit their preferences. Other than a web app, Microsoft offers Designer in an app developed for the Microsoft Edge web browser to allow users to work on a project and publish it to a social media page without leaving the same window. Microsoft has alsodesigned workedit to make it easier for users to resize a design, and offers up to 20twenty different social media layout sizes are offered across the most popular social media sites, such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter, to help users develop posts for those sites.

The preview of Microsoft Designer, which released a private preview in October 2022, and released a public preview in April 2023, was offered as a web app whichthat offers users a view of a basic page with a text prompt for the user to generate an image. With the April 2023 preview, Microsoft added features to Designer that allow users to add their own images to the prompt box or choose from a pre-designed template to assist the system in its prompt generation. Once the template or image is generated, it can be further customized by the user selecting any element and useutilizing a small toolbar to change the element, add further media or visuals, or add specific branding with Brand Kit. Microsoft Designer offers most social media formatformats, images like Instagram Stories and Facebook Banners, with a video template that offers users more dynamic visual choices.
